Meet House of Ruth Social Services Specialist, Emily Kleinhelter! She helps clients access utility and rent assistance as well as provides support for other basic needs and resources.
In your own words, what does our mission mean to you? I’m so proud to help offer a safe space that has the resources to help clients and families be successful.
What’s one professional or personal accomplishment you’re especially proud of? The day my bonus baby asked to call me “Mom.”
What motivates you to do this work/volunteer, especially on challenging days? I focus on my “why”, which is a desire to help people be successful.
What’s something people might be surprised to learn about you? I definitely took the long way around with finding my calling. I went to school for teaching and culinary before I found my love for social work.
How do you like to spend your time outside of work? I love to sleep, spending time with my family, friends and fur-babies, trying new recipes, reading, watching shows, traveling, listening to music, practicing yoga, and laughing!
What impact do you hope your work with House of Ruth has on the community? I want the House of Ruth to be a safe and welcoming space for those who need it.
Favorite local spot, activity, or hidden gem? My favorite restaurant is Dragon King’s Daughter, which is a blend of Mexican and Asian fusion. I love grabbing a coffee at Stomping Grounds because they have the BEST pumpkin pie latte! I also enjoy any local bookstore or the Louisville Free Public Library, as well as going to the zoo or aquarium.
If you could have dinner with any person (past or present), who would it be and why? Dolly Parton because she seems like such a warm soul and believes in helping others in order to make the world a better place.
