Thank You Missy Vitale Thank you to Missy Vitale for her 6 years of service on the House of Ruth Board of Directors. If you participate in Dining Out For Life, Missy is probably a familiar face. She has won the Dining Out For Life Ambassador of the Year Award multiple times. That honor goes to the Ambassador who raises the most funds in their restaurant on event day.
Missy has been a dedicated supporter and will certainly be missed, but we know that we will be able to find her on Dining Out For Life day encouraging others to make a donation to House of Ruth.
Back to School On August 13, House of Ruth held our Back to School event which supports our clients with school-aged children. Each child received a backpack full of school supplies and a gift card to purchase school uniforms or school appropriate clothing. Each family also received reusable masks.
This event is to lessen the financial burden that back-to-school shopping puts on families. Many of our clients live on a very limited budget and often must make difficult financial decisions. We never want a family to have to decide between purchasing school supplies or paying their utility bills.
The event looked a bit different this year to comply with CDC regulations around social distancing. Staff members worked our Food Pantry window and clients sat at a table outside to fill out their paperwork. Then, prepacked backpacks and masks were given to the parents along with their gift cards. Everyone was safe and had the supplies they needed to start the school year ready to learn.
Food Pantry During the Covid-19 crisis, our Food Pantry has never closed. We adapted the pick up to meet the guidelines set by the CDC so our clients could still have access to groceries and toiletries.
We have a dedicated volunteer come in to pack up the groceries and have the bags ready for our clients to pick up every Friday.
Dare to Care and food/toiletry donations from the community have kept us up and running. Thank you to all who have donated or worked to keep our Food Pantry open!
Client Successes Meet Gloria! She moved into assisted living where she can get the care and attention she needs to thrive. Her case manager helped her secure this new home so she could move out of her apartment where she was unable to take care of herself. Gloria is thriving since the move. Meet Marcus! He opened a checking account through a second chance bank and saved enough money to start a savings account, too! This is a huge accomplishment for Marcus, and he was able to do it thanks to the support and guidance from Glade House staff.
Meet Anthony! He received his Housing Choice affordable housing subsidy after starting out in House of Ruth housing. Now, he can move to Northern Kentucky where he has employment waiting for him and select a new place to call home. This was Anthony's goal all along.
How You Can Help There are ways to help House of Ruth right from your house!
