We’d like to introduce you to Sky Yeasayer, our office manager!
How long have you worked at House of Ruth?
4 months. Prior to joining House of Ruth, I was a volunteer manager in end-of-life care.
What’s the best part about your job?
Working in a small non-profit, there’s always much work to do, but the return is tremendous, considering housing is essential for dignity and well-being. It’s so rewarding to see our collective efforts make an enormous difference supporting our clients.
What’s your favorite thing to do when you’re not working?
Hanging out with my rescued friends – 5 cats and 2 dogs – and any time spent taking care of my yard or projects around the house.
Favorite movie of all time?
Books are more my jam. I’m a raving fan of the Louisville Free Public Library. The Libby app is probably the most used app on my phone.
The album you could listen to every day?
It blows my mind that I can access 75 million songs on a small device in my pocket. I mostly listen to the classics, mid-60s to late 80s, rock, soul, and country. Dolly Parton is a national treasure!
Quote to live by?
“Continue to be who and how you are, to astonish a mean world with your acts of kindness. Continue to allow humor to lighten the burden of your tender heart.” Maya Angelou
One more fun fact about you?
I’m a kNow Waste Ambassador with Louisville’s Solid Waste Management Education Dept. I was in the first group to get an in-depth, behind the scenes look at the city’s waste reduction plan. We volunteer to help with outreach, like tabling at a community event, Pop-up Drop off events, and our own neighborhood projects. I’m the recycling king of the office, taking our cardboard to the recycling drop-off every week.
