I am a Housing Case Manager at House of Ruth. My role involves helping individuals navigate barriers, connect with resources, and work toward greater stability and independence. I assist clients with housing, benefits, healthcare, and other essential needs while providing support and advocacy along the way. A big part of my job is meeting people where they are and helping them identify realistic goals for moving forward.
In your own words, what does our mission mean to you?
To me, the mission of House of Ruth means meeting people with compassion, dignity, and understanding, regardless of their circumstances. It means recognizing that everyone deserves access to resources, support, and an opportunity to build a better life. I believe our mission goes beyond providing services. It’s about making people feel seen, heard, and supported without judgment.
What’s one professional or personal accomplishment you’re especially proud of?
One accomplishment I’m especially proud of is pursuing my education in professional counseling and human services while continuing to grow professionally. I’ve always been passionate about helping others, and being able to turn that passion into meaningful work is something I take pride in. I’m proud of the experience I’ve gained and the opportunities I’ve had to make a difference in people’s lives.
What motivates you to do this work/volunteer, especially on challenging days?
What motivates me most is knowing that even the smallest amount of support can make a meaningful difference in someone’s life. I understand that everyone has a different story and that progress doesn’t always happen overnight. On challenging days, I remind myself that being consistent, listening, and helping someone take even one step forward can have a lasting impact.
What’s something people might be surprised to learn about you?
People might be surprised to learn how much I enjoy exploring the spiritual side of life and finding meaning in everyday experiences. I’m naturally curious, and I enjoy learning about things that challenge me to look at life from different perspectives.
How do you like to spend your time outside of work?
I enjoy spending quality time with my family, especially my child. I also enjoy learning new things, exploring my personal interests, and taking time for myself. I value having a balance between my professional responsibilities and the things that bring me joy.
What impact do you hope your work with House of Ruth has on the community?
I hope my work helps create a community where people feel supported, valued, and empowered to make positive changes in their lives. I want to help break down barriers, connect individuals with resources, and remind people that their circumstances do not define their potential. Ultimately, I hope the work I do contributes to lasting change, not just for individuals but for the community as a whole.
If you could have dinner with any person (past or present), who would it be and why?
I would choose Maya Angelou. I admire her resilience, wisdom, and ability to turn her life experiences into lessons that continue to inspire others. I would love the opportunity to hear her perspective on overcoming adversity, personal growth, and the importance of understanding and uplifting others.
